person的复数通常是people，但在书面英语中，有时也用persons 。

1前面不带任何冠词或限定词，表示笼统的“人们”，作复数处理。
2前面带数词或不定数量代词，表示以个体为单位的人数，相当于person的复数。
3区别于动物或物的人（复数）。
We’re people, not machines. 我们是人，不是机器。
4放在you后面，表示“你们”，以区别于表示单数“你”的you 。
You people don’t understand. 你们不懂。
Are you people coming or not? 你们来不来？
5指一个地域的居民整体或某个民族的整体，前面加上定冠词及相应的形容词，作为复数。
the Chinese people中国人民，或者前面加上定冠词后面加上of+地域专有名词。
the people of Brazil巴西人民。
6前面带有定冠词，但没有其他地域或国家的修饰语，作为复数，表示“人民”，有强烈的政治色彩，强调人民及其国内对立面之间的相对关系。
enemy of the people人民公敌。
“人民”前面如果加上形容词，而且强调这个形容词当前的情状，仍然要用单数的不定冠词a，尽管保持复数处理。
A long-oppressed people turn into an angry mob.
长年累月受尽压迫的人民，变成了一群愤怒的暴民。
7 people也可以作为普通的单数名词出现，表示“一个民族”，此时它可以有复数形式，two peoples就是“两个民族”或“两国人民”（意义重点仍然在国际关系而不在国内关系）。
尤其是如果people前面有表示特性的形容词，或是后面有表示特性的定语成分，就可以用不定冠词a 。
There are a proud people. 他们是个自豪的民族。
The Swedes are a Germanic people. 瑞典人是个日耳曼民族。
但是动词与代词仍然多用复数。
8作为单数普通名词的people，不但可以指一个民族，也可以缩小到只是指一个家族。
In Germany we were a highly civilized and respected people. Mendelssohn was my distant cousin. 当年在德国，我们一家是名门望族书香门第。门德尔松还是我的远方表亲呢。
